The Colorado Department of Correction provides public access to general inmate information through a searchable online locator tool. A search can be conducted using an inmate's first and last name or using a DOC number that is known: the DOC is an identification number given by the department, it is usually six characters long. One can still locate an inmate by calling the department.

It is important to note that inmate records conducted on online platforms may take up to 24 hours to reflect. Public records found when conducting an inmate search are the offender's name, incarceration date, expected release date and the convicted offence, inmate records may have photos and even where the inmate is housed. All this is possible because the department maintains an inmate database.

Using a DOC number guarantees you the specific results of an inmate you want to get details about. Find the DOC number from the Colorado DOC. You can still call or send an email for the number. Once you have the number, follow the steps below for results.

Charges when conducting an inmate search in Colorado

There is a fee charged after a request of more than 25 pages of documents and one hour of staff time to locate and produce documents through the CORA. However, any costs charged do not exceed the actual cost of producing the records.

If the number of pages produced in response to the request is more than 25 pages, the charges are $0.25 per page for all copied documents.

The requestor will be charged $20 an hour for the non-attorney staff time, $30 an hour for the attorney staff time. In some situations, the use of a third-party contractor is needed.
