Jail records, court & arrest records, mugshots and even judicial reports
The Hawaii Department of Public Safety (PSD), together with the Hawaii Department of Corrections (HI DOC), focuses on upholding justice and public safety through the provision of effective law enforcement and correctional services to Hawaiians. To effectively achieve this, the department employs the three core elements of fairness, integrity, and professionalism.
The department is divided into three notable divisions that are mandated to ensure the department's mission is achieved. These divisions include Administration, Correctional, and Law Enforcement.
Additionally, some agencies work under these departments, such as the Crime Victim Compensation, the Commission and Hawaii Paroling Authority, the Correctional Industries Advisory Committee, the Correction Population Management Commission, and the Reentry Commission.
As part of its mandate, PSD operates the Corrections Division, which comprises state prisons, jails, detention centers, and the Law Enforcement Division, which covers the Sheriff Divisions and Narcotics Enforcement. The Corrections Division further falls within the Hawaii Department of Corrections (HIDOC).
Knowing how frustrating it can be to locate an incarcerated person, the Hawaii Department of Corrections (HI DOC) created online databases and tools to help concerned persons to look up and find inmates. The goal is to help connect families with their convicted loved ones through seamless and easy-to-use prisoner locator tools.
These search tools not only help you find your loved ones but also gives you updates whenever the inmate is moved to another institution. To use the state prisoner locator tool on the HI DOC official website, you'll need the inmate's basic identifying information, such as their ID used when admitting them to the facility. Other resources are available on the Hawaii Bureau of Prisons website and Hawaii state sites.
Although you can quickly locate an inmate on the Bureau of Prisons site, its database only contains information on federal inmates. Other areas where you can look up inmates in state prisons include the Hawaii Department of Corrections website and Hawaii State site.
Inmates in city, county, police, and community jails and detention centers can be looked up through the regional law enforcement agencies under whose jurisdiction these institutions fall. Most of these facilities require an inmate's ID and full names to enter into the search engines.
However, these requirements vary from one facility to another. Hence, it's advisable to check with HI DOC or the administration of these facilities to know which information is required when looking up an inmate.
Follow the procedure below for a successful search.
Step 1: Visit the VINE search tool and select the state of Hawaii.
Step 2: Perform the search using the names or the ID

It will provide a name, mug shot, and the offense status and administration details of the convict. Click on the name of the offender to reveal a large photo of the offender and additional information such as:
The federal government and the Hawaii Department of Corrections maintain a database of escapees and most wanted fugitives who escaped from Hawaii correctional facilities. This database and search tools are available on the US Marshals Services website.
To check out a Hawaii escapee, visit the site and enter the inmate's identifying information such as name, crime committed, and facility they escaped from. You'll be given access to the fugitive's additional information from the database.
