About New Mexico Corrections Department

The New Mexico Department of Correction tries its best to be transparent about essential information and the system's operations. The public relations office is open to interact with the media and responds to all their inquiries. All inquiries are handled by the Public Information Officer or the Public Affairs Director. They also ensure timely access to their facilities, employees, inmates and policies.

The inmates also get a chance to have interviews. The news agency or the reporter must file out the Media Request Form for Inmate Interviews form. The form is then sent to the Public Affairs Office. The inmate must show his/her willingness to be interviewed, which he confirms in writing.

The department also has a service program for the victims called the Victim Service Program. The program provides direct contact between the crime victims and their families having apprehension over offenders in custody or under probation or parole supervision of the New Mexico Correction Department.

The program ensures utmost compassion, respect and confidentiality when administering the service. They are dedicated to assisting crime victims during the hearing process of the parole board. It also assists the district attorney's victim advocates, New Mexico Adult Parole Board, and victim advocacy organizations in enforcing the victims' issues. The victim services address and promote awareness of victims' rights and probation, parole officers, and prison sensitivity.

The New Mexico Correction Department indefinitely suspended all in-person visitations. The suspension covers any form of contact, attorney, and non-contact visits to all the prison facilities. Approved visitors can now visit the inmates by use of video visitation. The facility management helps the visitors facing challenges using the video visitation by setting up the video visit.

Victims of Crime Act Grant Information

The NMCD Victim Service Program receives funds from the New Mexico Crime Victims Reparation Commission to sustain services to the Victims of Crime Act. The department ensures that survivors and victims are appropriately served and can file their complaints if needs arise. Discrimination against religion, color, race, national origin, or any other form is out of the question in New Mexico Correction Department.

The NMCD collects offender information to dispense law enforcement agencies together with the general public with the details of offenders on probation, parole supervision, or incarcerated.

• Offender number

Any agencies will never release the information, statuses, and updates on inmates' release.
