About Alaska Department of Corrections

The Alaska Department of Corrections is a top state government agency in the state of Alaska that is responsible for corrections, public safety, and incarceration of convicted offenders within the state. The Department of Corrections is the agency mandated to manage and operate correctional institutions, detention centers, community rehabilitation centers, juvenile prisons, parole, and probation.  The  Department's current commissioner is Nancy Dahlstrom. The agency's main headquarters is located in the Douglas area of Juneau with several administrative offices in Anchorage.

In order to ensure safety, justice, and the rule of law is maintained in Alaska, the Alaska Department of Corrections works alongside the  Alaska Department of Public Safety.

Alaska DPS is another state government agency responsible for enforcing laws that pertain to criminal offenses, justice,  statutes, traffic, wildlife,  fire, and overall public safety. The Alaska DPS also aids in search and rescue missions,  court services,  and is responsible for maintaining criminal justice records.

The Alaska DPS is divided into five divisions which include:

Inmates in Alaska prisons are under the Alaska Department of Corrections. Unfortunately, the DOC doesn't provide an online database for an inmate search. However, you can still locate an offender through the State of Alaska Department of Public safety.

The steps below will enable you to carry out a successful search.

Step 1: Go to the rules and regulations as stipulated in the registration of the sex offenders. This will guide you to the frequency of sex offenders registering in the provided register.

Step 2:Visit the search database and locate the search section for specific offenders in Alaska State. The section at the State of Alaska Department of Public safety looks like this.

Step 3: If you have the two names of an inmate you want to search, enter the provided space. Then click “Submit Query.” If you don't have all the names of the inmate you are searching for, then get one name and input in the search section. E.g., when you are searching for Andrew John, but you can only remember John, input the first name and click submit a query. The outcomes will get you several results where you can quickly identify the offender.

Step 4: Once you have the details, you can proceed by clicking on the name of the inmate you are interested in. This will take you to the details regarding the inmate, as shown below. For our case, we shall use Andrew, John Jr. By clicking on his name; you will get the details below.

Alternative ways of finding inmates incarcerated in Alaska

While the registry provided data regarding sex offenders, you can still get the population of inmates incarcerated in different facilities within the state. Here is the institution address list where you can make inquiries through mail or make a call to the institution. The list provides the address and phone number. It also offers the superintendent of the facility.
